Homeland Security?

DHS Roadblock - Arizona SR86

April 14, 2005 - Photo #3

After stopping me, this Border Patrol agent demanded that I identify my citizenship without identifying herself first or what the purpose of the roadblock was. It should be noted that merely having a foreign citizenship is not illegal. There are millions of people in this country who are not American citizens but are nonetheless here legally. To determine who has entered the country illegally, the Border Patrol needs to actually be on the border - not 40 miles North harassing motorists absent individualized reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing.

I have blacked out the faces of these DHS agents out of respect for their privacy. It should be noted however that public servants engaging in public activities in the public arena have no expectation of privacy given the public's fundamental right to scrutinize the behavior of any government official operating within the scope of their official duties.
