(Part 3) GAO Presentation On Internal DHS Checkpoints

On September 2, 2009, Congresswoman Giffords organized a community meeting in Green Valley, Arizona to discuss the recent findings of a GAO study regarding interior Border Patrol checkpoints. The study was requested in 2007 by several Congressmen in direct response to public outcry in Southern Arizona regarding Homeland Security plans to establish a permanent suspicionless federal checkpoint South of Tucson along I-19.

Before continuing, it should be noted the intent of the Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security has always been to force a permanent checkpoint down the throats of Southern Arizonans regardless of the level of public outcry or the conclusions of the GAO report:

Checkpoint USA was on hand to record the meeting and is now making it available to the general public. This is part two of the meeting and highlights a presentation by Richard Stana with the Government Accountability Office (GAO). Part one is available here:

Congresswoman Giffords To Host Community Forum On Border Patrol Checkpoint Study

On August 31, 2009, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a 147 page report on internal suspicionless Border Patrol checkpoints.

I've not yet had an opportunity to review the report for myself but will at my earliest opportunity. In the meantime, I thought it was important to point folks to the report so they can read it for themselves. A local news story on the GAO report from KVOA Channel 4 News in Tucson is available here.

Roadblock Revelations

Welcome to Checkpoint USA's blog. Here you'll find general information and discussions regarding growing threats to our right to privacy & travel.

While I refer to court cases along with state and federal law frequently in this blog, nothing written here should be construed as legal advice. I am not an attorney. Rather, I'm someone concerned about the growing disregard for individual rights present at all levels of government.

My conclusions are my own based upon personal experience and research. The law is made purposely complex however and varies significantly from place to place and circumstance to circumstance.
